Initial design ideas for the SSG logo

Strategic Solutions Group hired 4Slice to create their first logo for them in 2005. After an initial discussion with members of their company, we decided the right approach was to have the logo take on an 'intellectual feel', to accentuate the idea of strategy.
The initial ideas included a suggestion from SSG to use an M.C. Escher-like image, either wrapping their letters, or next to their company name. However, I also proposed a second option, a logo based on the strategic game of Othello. Although the final logo strayed slightly from the initial 2x2 start position I designed, it kept the idea enough to where SSG was happy with the final product.
