WSI Newsroom

Desktop Applications

October 2005

While working in WSI's transportation department, the Media Department requested my services for a brand new desktop application to sell to news stations and information services. The project was still in the early process, but an RFP was scheduled to be sent to various software firms for consideration. Personally, I considered this project somewhat difficult as very few specifications were defined, and I had to create a full-featured product with various screens, as well as a Mini-Mode for compact use, in two days. During various times in those two days, I would receive more specs that would cause me to change around the design.

While the WSI Newsroom ultimately changed its design after a proposal was accepted, I was pulled back in to update the new design, add features, and define the Preferences section. From there, I was in charge of creating the 'How To' manual for news stations to customize and skin the application, add heads (of their news teams), and other customizable buttons for the Newsroom application. The stations would contact WSI to request HTML and design help for updating their web site's download page.

The Newsroom product did sell, but was eventually pulled. However, I was proud of the quick turnaround we achieved, and my second attempt at a desktop application.
