Space Shuttle - 3D

Class Projects

May 1999

This site was created for the final project in the 4.206 Visualization class. Most students chose structures such as buildings or bridges; however, I wanted something a little more exciting. An animation was required, and I felt this had a variety of possiblities.

Using Alias Wavefront, I began to shape the shuttle and its fuel tanks. The 3D animation rendering time took an enormous amount of time, so instead, I storyboarded each section based on information gathered from NASA's web site. I created 3D stills, edited them in photoshop based on actual images, and created shorter clips in Premiere.

Besides the animation and stills, the faculty was impressed by the full website I created (not a requirement).
